My Collections

I thought it would be cool to share some of my many collections with you.  If you would like to add pictures of your collections, please do!  Have any questions?  Put them in the comments box!

40+ Year Old Astrology Glasses

As you will find out, I have a thing for glasses with pictures on them.  I don’t know why, but I do!  Luckily, we have a full library with built-in bookshelves that no longer hold books (because we have readers) and I am able to display my glasses – and other things – there.  I started this set of glasses in 1999 when my beloved Nana passed away.  When I was a little girl, she had one of those glasses in her cabinet.  I thought the gold was so pretty with milk poured in.  The stark white made the gold picture on front glisten as if it were real gold jewelry.  These are astrological sign glasses and the one my Nana had was “Virgo”.  I had no idea what a Virgo was but it was really pretty.  When Nana died, I asked for the glass.  Little by little I would find a glass here or there at an estate sale.  Luckily for me, most people didn’t have dishwashers back then so there is no fading on even a single glass.  My girl at MOD Squad Picking (https://www.facebook.com/#!/ModSquadPicking ) found the final glass last spring.  I put colored tissue paper in the glasses so you can see the figures.  I don’t know where they came from so if YOU know, please tell me!  Go see MSP – she specializes in Mid-Century Modern items and they rock!

This is a collection of Indian motorcycles that I purchased at an antique mall in the tiniest of towns I happened to be passing through about 12 years ago.  I bought the Barbies to sit on the motorcycles because they fit really well and I thought they were cool.  There is a re-make of the original Malibu Barbie (which I owned as a kid), Grease Barbie, That Girl Barbie along with Superman a military Ken and then the girl with the dog in lavender.  I’ve had plenty of chances to sell them to eager collectors but I just cannot do it!  Enjoy!

This is our collection of novelty lighters.  Some of these can be very expensive but still retro-cool!

Some really groovy cups purchased from the MOD Squad Picker’s seemingly unending flow of exquisite Mid-Century Modern items!  Go visit her on Facebook.

These are some of my antique Mason Jars and how I display them with retro toys and game pieces.  I have these in my kitchen.

This is a rather bunched up photo of my full collection of warner brothers glasses put out by Pepsi in the early to mid-70′s.

These are McDonald’s, Burger King, Peanuts, Popeye, and Super Hero glasses.  They are all together because I am still working on these collections.  When they are each complete, I will display them separately.

Harley-Davidson Plates

These are my Harley-Davidson Plates.  Did I mention I have acquired all my collections at yard sale, flea markets, or from my buyer the MOD Squad Picker?

I know she’s only one and not REALLY a collection but she deserves her own status.  My Josie was the coolest of all my dolls!

  1. I enjoyed looking at your collections and your recipes, but since you are publishing your site you really need to be careful of your grammar. One example, you have incorrectly used “to” when you should have used “too.” It is good to have someone proofread for you before you publish.

I hope I haven’t offended you. It is an occupational hazard as I teach at the university level and automatically notice errors in grammar and spelling.

    • Your missive is very transparent. Aging is a very small profession, my friend – in fact, my boss is the new Executive President of NASUAD in Washington and the new adminstrator of the ACL is a fellow Jayhawk and friend. I’ll ask them if they know you. At which University do you teach? Generally speaking our university system requires a doctorate and not merely a Master’s but Indiana may have a waiver. All the best! Well I catch myself mixing up my to’s too. I started my blog on food in this venue because of that kind of trolling on an other blog. I wanted to share some recipes to some bloggers I was freinds with there. They were retiring and was interested in how I managed with my low budget. As freinds after. TPM closed the cafe, that was the readers blog, we set up wordpress as a place to write and share. We were all invited to join Dagblog so we commented and wrote there. I felt safe place to polish up a food blog was here at wordpress minding my own business. I thought after a couple of weeks I would move a few over to Dag. I didn’t want to give the tolls much food. Instead my first week I was chosen for a blog award and met some really great bloggers. I turned down my friends offer to help me post on dag. I knew I found the right place for me. This is the first comment I have seen someone pointing out a misstake in our community. I just wanted to tell you that was a great response to the comment. I have some glass collections too. Enjoyed your pictures of your treasures. You could of used 2 for all I cared. I just liked the tour.

    • Thank you TMM! That individual had never been to my blog before and has never commented since – although I have no idea if she has been here. The comment had much more to do with trying to bully me concerning the OTHER blog. However, the ridiculousness of the comment has compelled me to leave the homophone alone, maybe evenadding a few long the way and hope she will continue two come too my blog two check, knowing it is bugging the crap out of her! :)

GOSH! I know. Don’t you just love old stuff? I literally can’t stop gathering things when I walk into the flea market. Thanks for the compliments. I’m going to add your button to my page :)

    • Why Thank you! I am working on 4 projects that I picked up this weekend (my husband has a booth at our flea pretty much just so I can have $$ to spend there!) and I can’t get them finished because they require paint and it’s too doggone cold here to do it! But, as soon as I get them completed, I will take the “after” pictures and post all – I think you will like them! Just love your blog!

  4. I enjoyed reading your blog! We have something similar going on! I just love going to garage sales, flea markets you name it! It is always fun to see what other people pick up as everyone’s interests are different! I love it! If you have a chance please view my blog! http://www.fromtheirtrashtoyours.wordpress.com.
I just have to add that I think your passion for glasses with things written on them is awesome! Sometimes when I go to garage sales I will see character glasses that I remember using when I was little. Brings back to many good memories! Happy hunting! :)
